6th Annual IAM LL 1943
Yellow Ribbon Support Center Gate Collection
Friday May 1st, 2015
For the sixth year in a row, your Community Services Committee is organizing a gate collection for the Yellow Ribbon Support Center to show support for the brave men and women serving overseas in our nation’s military.
In the past we collected non-perishable items and cash to donate to the YRSC. Through our own observations and discussions with Mr. Maupin, the committee has decided to focus the gate collection on monetary donations. Due to the amount of dry good donations the YRSC currently receives and the ever increasing cost of shipping, we feel that the YRSC would benefit the most from a monetary donation at this time.
This year we are teaming up with the IAMAW Eastern Territory and AK Steel. They have also agreed to make donations, helping us to contribute a sizable donation to the YRSC.
On April 9th, 2004, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Matt Maupin was captured in Iraq by Al-Qaida insurgents. Through relentless pressure from his father, Mr. Keith Maupin, his remains were recovered on March 20, 2008 and returned home. Since that time, Mr. Maupin has created the Yellow Ribbon Support Center in Matts Memory to provide boxes of goods to our soldiers serving overseas and to award scholarships to local high school seniors in the name of a fallen hero. Since 2005, the YRSC has sent over 23,000 care packages to the men & women serving on foreign soil and have also given over $400,000 in scholarships.
Please be generous on May 1st, and show the world how much IAM Local Lodge 1943 appreciates the men and women who defend our great Nation.
